The DIY Pallet Planter is designed to repurpose abandoned pallets and transform them into thriving vertical gardens for schools and communities. This project was designed with the RIT ID space in mind due to it’s abundance of natural light and passionate student’s ready to practice their green thumbs. A Plant Club will be funded in Spring 2023!

This project encouraged students to contemplate a speculative future. The team developed a concept for a community garden called eve:RE, which would be abundant with plants and food. Community members would work together to care for the garden, utilizing smart technology. The garden would feature a unique multi-species tree that would bear different types of fruit.

The project aimed to teach students how to use Blender3D software while creating animations related to climate awareness. Students learned a variety of tools and techniques in the software, including 3D modeling, physics-based animation, and setting up materials and lights for renders, allowing them to produce a diverse range of high-quality animations.

The project objective was to design products that establish an emotional connection between the user and the product. The student designed a recycling station that sorts, grinds, and melts plastic into 3D printing filament. Using generative design, the station's design was optimized, and it was 3D printed, so that users can create their own station or replace damaged parts thus keeping materials in the loop and building a stronger bond between the creator and their creations.
